I had the opportunity to check out Ol' Dirty Sunday at Crowbar in Ybor City. This is a weekly party hosted by resident dj's Blenda, Casper, Lesage and Mega. Each week we're treated to old school hip hop, funk, reggae and soulful joints. Everyone that attends seems to be immersed in the energy that surrounds them; live art, b-boys and free food. It's Tampa's very own block party.
Last night was particularly sexy. Local (fem)cee Dynasty performed on the roof top, she was reminiscent of a young Lauryn Hill with a Das EFX influence; spitting conscious rhymes that make you think as well as bob your head to. She was undeniable...you couldn't help but be captivated. For yours truly, it was love at first rhyme.
There's something magical happening in Tampa Bay, the pot of creativity here is brewing and I feel as if the artists in our community are hitting milestones that will catapult us into the stratosphere; so that our voices can be heard and our visions can be realized.
here are some tracks from Dynasty..give it a listen..be inspired
I bought a piece of jewelry from my friend Myla Wiley a few weeks ago and I must say It has become one of my favorite pieces. I've been meaning to share her blog with you so that you too can find something unique to fall in love with...visit, share and find something beautiful.
Beyonce unveiled her latest video yesterday. Although the song (which uses Major Lazer's unmistakable Pon de Floor beat), is lackluster in my opinion; the visuals are stunning. Obviously inspired by Pieter Hugo's Hyena Men, she manages to yet again, leave us second guessing her validity in today's pop mainstream. Whenever I think she's peaked, she serves up something hot and new(ish).
Lady GaGa will grace the newest issue of V Magazine on newstands on May 12th. This issue of the fashion magazine is being heralded as their "Asian" issue; with ten percent of proceeds going towards Japan relief efforts.
